Why Am I Not Getting Interviews?

There are few things more demoralising in a job search than sending application after application and hearing nothing back. Not a rejection, not an interview, just silence. You start to wonder what is wrong with you, whether you are good enough, whether you are doing something obviously wrong that everyone else can see and you cannot.

Before that spiral goes any further, here is something important to understand: in most cases, the silence is not really about you. It is about how the modern hiring process works, and the good news is that once you understand it, you can do something different.

Your application may never reach a human

When you apply for a popular job today, your CV often does not go straight to a person. It goes into a system. Many employers receive hundreds of applications per role, far more than anyone could read, so they use software to filter CVs automatically before a human ever looks. That software scans for keywords matching the job description and ranks applications accordingly.

This means a strong candidate can be filtered out before any human sees them, simply because their CV did not contain the exact words the system was looking for. You might be perfect for the job and still never make it past the first automated gate. That is not a reflection of your ability. It is a flaw in how the screening works.

Everyone's CV now looks the same

There is a second problem, and it has got worse recently. Because so many people now use AI tools to write and polish their CVs, the average application has become very slick and very similar. When every CV is well-worded and tightly matched to the job advert, it becomes much harder for any individual one to stand out. You are competing in a sea of polished, near-identical applications, and the things that make you genuinely good at the work often do not come across on paper at all.

So you can be doing everything "right," a tidy CV, the correct keywords, a tailored cover letter, and still disappear into the pile, because the pile is enormous and everyone in it looks roughly the same.

It is rarely about your ability

This is worth saying plainly, because a long silent job search can really damage your confidence: not getting interviews is usually a filtering problem, not a capability problem. The process is screening on the wrong things, a document that all candidates can now make look strong, rather than on what you can actually do. Some of the strongest people get filtered out, and some weaker applicants who happened to optimise their CV get through. The system is not measuring the thing that matters.

Understanding this matters because it changes what you do next. If the problem were your ability, the answer would be discouraging. But if the problem is that the process cannot see what you can actually do, then the answer is clear: find a way to show it.

Show what you can do, not just what is on paper

The way to break out of the silence is to give an employer evidence of how you actually work, something a filtered CV can never convey. The more you can demonstrate your real strengths, the way you approach problems, handle pressure, and make decisions, the less you are at the mercy of a keyword filter.

It also helps you. When you understand your own strengths clearly, you apply more confidently and target the roles that genuinely suit you, rather than firing applications into the void and hoping. A focused application backed by a real understanding of what you bring beats fifty hopeful ones.

PRODICTA was built around this idea.
